WHAT ARE HONOR KILLINGS?
Honor killings is the practice where a someone is killed by another family member to preserve the honor of the family. Typically, the victims are women and girls and in some cases men. Honor killings usually occur when the victim does or is suspected of doing the following behaviors: not following family's dress code, divorce, rape, not agreeing to arrange marriage, homosexual relations or simply disobeying the rules of the household. Every year there are an estimated 5,000 honor killing committed around the world.
